Moment of work-based clarity today. I’m fruitlessly chasing people to try and get them to engage, but they’ve already checked out for Xmas (or have filled up what capability they have). This realisation allows me to breathe and think. Plan for the new year, rather than react to what’s left of this one.

Knackered today, because I stayed up watching the final of Physical:Asia last night. It’s a totally idiotic self-indulgence, but I really enjoy the combination of the physical challenges with the (mostly) gentle competition of the teams. Except Australia, who were chirpy, but so full of themselves!

Woke up at 6am with the joy that comes with knowing it’s Saturday, and you can go back to sleep for a couple of hours.
Was re-awoken at 6:15 by my alarm. It’s Tuesday.

I am broken on the wheel of trying to manage hospital stuff; trying to do a big bid for some money to be able to continue some R&D work; pitching for more work work;
So tired. Can’t sleep. Brain fried. Physically glitching.
I’m burning my social media, because frankly, it’s like screaming into the void. I don’t have any friends there. Occasionally, people laugh at some of the things I say, but I’m increasingly beginning to think it’s the kind of laughter you hear when you approach a stranger in the street and ask them where they got that lovely dress.

Thinking about my values… goodness, kindness, ya-da ya-da ya-da… what specific things do I care about and want to change in my life
- Having fewer things, but better things, and the things I want.
- Taking control of money - from day-to-day finances to pensions, insurances and mortgages
- Creating more time to do more creating. I like making things, both digital and physical. I like making my space look nice.
- I should clean more. I should do all the cleaning.
How to start this?
-
Just messin’ with animated SVGs. Nothing to see here.

I am so ready for a break. What I really need is something social, away from computers and phones. Listen to some music. Touch some grass. Stuff my face with tasty food. Sleep.
Chances of this happening in the near future? Close to zero.

Today, I shall mostly be listening to Lalo Schifrin. RIP
-
I’ve begun a bit of a fiction project. Who knows if it’ll ever see the light of day. I suspect I’ll fall into the trap of doing a lot of worldbuilding at the expense of creating an actual story, but hey, it’s mostly for my own amusement. Don’t hold your breath.

Heh, going through old playlists, and adding them to my sounds lists. This may take a while.
-
Oh good grief. I have spent a long time today refactoring the way that my site handles images, because I wanted to auto-process the social preview images. I’m not sure it’s worth it… Time for a spot of lunch.
-
Trying something new. I made a playlist, as a form of diary entry…

Oh my goodness. That took a lot of work, I’d really screwed up in many ways. Broke the Hugo templates; Had simply missed a whole swathe of image references I’d imported from elsewhere AND went down a very fruitful Obsidian / Dataview rabbit hole 🕳 🐇
- Must write up a post about Obsidian & Dataview as a CMS for Hugo.
All done now, as far as I can tell.
-
Oh good grief. Just found that the alt text part of the site has broken. I’m not sure how long it’s been like this. Fixing!
-
Hmm, turns out I’m having “ideas” again, which often results in site breakages. Not helped by the fact that Hugo has announced potentially breaking changes in the templating systemgohugo.io - I’m going to try an upgrade and see what happens… wish me luck.
-
I honestly thought I was going to write many more short things, and I’ve over complicated this. So, I spent some time today under complicating it.
-
Finally got around to adding some Slash Pagesslashpages.net to my site. Now you can learn about me, what I’m doing now, and then say hello 👋.
I will add some more, eventually, but this is good for now.

Jan 3rd or 4th… what day even is it?
Today have taken the opportunity, whilst recovering from a really nasty ‘flu bug, to fall down the rabbit hole of not one, but two fantastic public domain image sites. There’s the Public Domain Image Archive, which I think is based in the UK.
Public Domain Image ArchiveExplore our hand-picked collection of 10,046 out-of-copyright works, free for all to browse, download, and reuse. This is a living database with new images added every week.
