It feels a bit odd to say “I love music”, because I find it hard to imagine a human that doesn’t love music of some form or another. If you don’t love music, this part of the site is probably not for you.
My aim here is to write about music and other sonic experiences. I sometimes curate playlists, write about gigs & festivals, and might even share some stuff I’ve made. Enjoy at a sensible volume…

Mellow'n'collie
I made a playlist with a mix of old and new tracks in a sort of slightly melancholy, chill vibe. Though I had high hopes for the new Stereolab album, it all feels a bit samey. Aerial Troubles is the stand-out track.
This acts as a bit of a diary entry too - we went to stay at a nice campsite, near Banham Zoo. (All the G family love a zoo). On the Saturday was a little bring-your-own-dog dog show, and our Jack Russell Terrorist won the scurry race! So proud.

Xmas music
Every Christmas there’s a considerable amount of low-key argument about what music to play. We have a number of playlists that get trotted out, with Dr G’s “Christmas 2017” winning most of the battles. Mainly because it’s been honed over a few years to meet Dr G’s and Baby G’s requirements exactly. It’s a fairly bulletproof mix of festive hits, from Mariah Careyopen.spotify.com to Jona Lewieopen.spotify.com. Also over the years, we have instituted a “No Christmas music before December 1st” rule, which means we’re not too sick of it all by Christmas day.

The Lamb
We were at Ely Cathedral last night for Baby G’s school held a “Nine lessons” service, where she was singing in the main choir. Generally an excellent evening. A particular standout for me was the school’s chamber choir, and their performance of ‘The Lamb’ by John Tavener. This was somewhat of a Proustian moment for me.

Limoncello
A fading starlet gives her last performance to a small crowd of well-wishers. She turns away from the microphone briefly, to cough bloody spittle into a silk hankerchief. Afterwards, she gets a car to the aerodrome, where her plane awaits to take her into the beyond… …Read more
