Songs for Christmas
Without a shadow of a doubt, this is the Christmas music you and your hipster mates would play, if it wasn’t too much of a drag.
I am not allowed to play this album in the family areas during the festive run-up, but funnily enough, by the time the big day arrives, we’re all ready for a bit of a palette cleanser…
There’s such a great energy in this album. Trad songs and Steven’s own alike are performed with a fresh-sounding verve. The standout track for me is “Get behind me, Santa!” which just oozes good humour.

Xmas music
Every Christmas there’s a considerable amount of low-key argument about what music to play. We have a number of playlists that get trotted out, with Dr G’s “Christmas 2017” winning most of the battles. Mainly because it’s been honed over a few years to meet Dr G’s and Baby G’s requirements exactly. It’s a fairly bulletproof mix of festive hits, from Mariah Careyopen.spotify.com to Jona Lewieopen.spotify.com. Also over the years, we have instituted a “No Christmas music before December 1st” rule, which means we’re not too sick of it all by Christmas day.

Theme Time Radio Hour
No arguments from LRG family at Christmas. Given the right opportunity, we must listen to the Bob Dylan Theme Time Radio Hour Christmas & New Year special.
I first heard about this show in 2008, in the run up to Christmas, but I’m pretty sure I didn’t actually listen to it on it’s broadcast date.

Charlie Brown Christmas

Often, but not always, my job over the festive period is to do the ‘big shop’ at our local supermarket, in preparation for Christmas dinner. It’s hell. The noise, the relentless barrage of screaming adults, whining children, and tanoy messages. There’s a constant crash of stock cages and drunk trolleys. Finally, layered over the top of this is the overly cheerful bauble-vomit that is the get-your-shopping-done-quickly music.
